Hood Warfare 2 not working: fixes

First, three checks for every problem

1. Update: close the game, restart Steam and let it download patch 1.0.10 or newer.
2. Verify files: in your Steam Library, right click Hood Warfare 2, then Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files.
3. Check your PC against the system requirements: Windows 10 64-bit or newer, DirectX 12 and at least a GTX 1660 or RX 5600 XT.

Game crashes after each match or on start

The thread "Game Crashing After each game" is one of the busiest on the Steam forum, and others report crashes on start. These steps are standard for Unreal Engine 5 games; the developer has not identified them as fixes for Hood Warfare 2.

• Update your graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
• Turn off overlays (Discord, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner, Steam overlay) and try again.
• Close apps that hook into games, such as screen recorders and RGB tools.
• If it crashes on start, make sure the anti-cheat service installed with the game is allowed by your antivirus.

Cannot join a game

Make sure you and your friend run the same version (both restart Steam), then pick a match with low ping on the join match screen. Players report that matches are hosted by players: when the host leaves, the match moves to a new host, which they say freezes the game for a moment and sometimes drops them. Patch 1.0.10 fixed the ping shown on the join screen.

High ping or lag

Reviews mention 80 to 100+ ms ping in matches that showed under 20 ms. The display was fixed in 1.0.10; the host changes were not. Pick matches with the lowest ping, use a wired connection, and close downloads while you play.

No audio or audio blasting

• Set your headset or speakers as the default output device in Windows sound settings before launching the game.
• Plug in USB or Bluetooth headsets before starting the game, not during it.
• Lower the in-game volume sliders if the audio is too loud; players have reported sudden loud audio.
• Since 1.0.10 the game also has voice chat. If you hear other players and do not want to, check the voice chat settings.

Level or loadout reset

Players reported their level resetting to one and loadouts not saving. Patch 1.0.10 fixed loadout presets not saving, progression not showing correctly at the end of a match and player selection not saving. If your level still resets after updating, report it on the developer’s Discord as Trapstar Games asks.
